Project Status and Timeline

After extensive technical analysis and coordination with the community and specific property owners, a pipeline route has been selected and approved (see map on "Project Home" page).

The County's Department of Environmental Review and Assessment conducted a thorough environmental review of the Walnut Grove Sewer Project. The environmental review process was completed, with the environmental document certified and the project approved by the SASD Board of Directors on January 23, 2008. SASD completed the design of the project in January 2008 and construction activities started in June 2008. The schedule at this time is as follows:

Design Completed - January 2008
Construction - Spring 2008 to Summer 2009
Facilities Operational - Summer 2009

Public Meetings

SASD is committed to an open public process, involving frequent and ongoing communication with residents, businesses, stakeholders, and the general public. Community meetings, newsletters/postcards, and this Web site are among the various tactics used to provide updated information and obtain public input throughout the project.

In July 2008, SASD is holding a community meeting to provide a construction update to the public. The project team will hold the meeting at the New Hope Elementary School on July 9 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. For more details, please use the contact information on the "Contact Information" page of this Web site.

In October 2007, SASD participated in a community forum to discuss the status of the project and present pipeline routes. The Project Team was hosted by the Thornton Community Chamber of Commerce on October 9 in Thornton. A postcard announcement was sent out in advance to publicize the Thornton/Walnut Grove meeting.

In October 2005, SASD hosted two community forums to discuss the status of the project and present pipeline route alternatives. The Project Team appeared before the Locke Management Association on October 11 and the Delta Citizens Municipal Advisory Council in Walnut Grove on October 12. Postcard announcements were sent out in advance to publicize the Walnut Grove meetings.

An earlier round of project updates to these community groups was held in April (Walnut Grove) and June (Locke) of 2005.
