Anyone driving the roadways south of Elk Grove between highways I-5 and 99 recently has likely seen first-hand the progress being made on Harvest Water pipeline construction. Crews are hard at work installing the pipelines that will soon deliver up to 50,000 acre-feet – or 16 billion gallons – of high-quality recycled water each year to support agricultural operations in south Sacramento County.
Several miles of pipeline have already been installed (see map). The Franklin-Eschinger Pipelines were the first to begin construction in February of this year, followed by the West Pipelines this spring, and the Elk Grove Transmission Pipeline earlier this summer. Work on the Central-South Pipelines began this month.
The fall months will be busy for Harvest Water construction crews as work continues. Here’s what you can expect in the area in the coming months.
Work on Franklin Boulevard continues in multiple areas:
• Within Elk Grove, work between Laguna Boulevard and Sims Road continues through early 2025. The northbound lanes of Franklin Boulevard are closed in this area, with all traffic diverted to the southbound lanes on the west side of Franklin Boulevard.
• South of Elk Grove, work continues between Hood Franklin and Core Roads until late November, and between Twin Cities and Lambert Roads until early October, with full road closures in place.
• Once work is completed between Twin Cities and Lambert, work on Franklin Boulevard between Lambert and Core Roads will continue to progress throughout the fall months.
Several other roadways are also impacted by Harvest Water construction activity:
• Lambert Road has been closed between Bruceville and Point Pleasant roads, but is anticipated to re-open the week of September 23.
• Eschinger Road between West Stockton Boulevard and Carroll Road is closed until late 2024.
• Camp Road is now under construction through late October.
• Core Road will be under construction starting the week of September 30.
