Prestigious honors showcase staff’s dedication to public health, environmental protection, and industry leadership
Sacramento, Calif.— The Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) has earned six distinguished awards from the Sacramento Area Section of the California Water Environment Association (CWEA), celebrating the organization’s commitment to operational excellence, environmental stewardship, and public health. These accolades reflect the expertise, innovation, and dedication of SacSewer’s workforce in delivering on its mission to safeguard the region’s water resources.
Selected from a competitive field of applications, SacSewer was honored during CWEA’s annual awards ceremony on February 7, in Sacramento, California. CWEA, a statewide organization that has recognized industry excellence for 95 years, conducts a rigorous selection process involving extensive peer evaluation and review, making these honors a testament to SacSewer’s leadership in the sector. Winners are now advancing as finalists for the statewide CWEA awards, where they will compete for top honors in recognition of their excellence and contributions to the industry.

SacSewer was recognized across six of CWEA’s major award categories, demonstrating excellence in operations, safety, leadership, and laboratory work:
- SacSewer’s Collection System – Large Collection System of the Year Award
- EchoWater Resource Recovery Facility – Safety Plant of the Year Award
- Helen Hu – Supervisor Person of the Year Award
- Dave Lavezzoli – Electrical Instrumentation Person of the Year Award
- Andrew Oko – Laboratory Person of the Year Award
- Samuel Wurth – Operator Person of the Year Award
